Morni Hills is the only hill station that comes under Haryana State. Just 10 kms from Morni Town, there is a twin lake which is very least explored to the date, called Tikkar Taal Lake. I have visited this place numerous times, especially when I used to stay in Chandigarh. In one one of them, I also met a road accident getting stitches on my forehead. Most of those times were just night out with friends, whereas my latest trip on this spot happened to be the very new year (2016) & birthday of one of my friends.

We started afternoon 4 PM with a plan to do a night stay, & took us 2 hours to reach the place from Chandigarh Sector 22c. Best part of the journey to Tikkar Taal is always the road to drive. There are plenty of chances to encounter wildlife on the way. Till now, I have seen Barking Deers, Rabbits, Reindeers, Snakes on the road. Best thing about the plan was the winter season, which is very best to trip this hill station. You would not like to visit this place in June or July.

As soon we reached Tikkar Taal, our first priority was to look for hotel to make a night stay. Most of the hotels were booked since, it was new year. On normal days, it is very easy to get space over here. Finally, we got success at Hotel Mumtaaj but with only single room left. Later on, they offered us tents, which we humbly opted for, in that emergency.

Hotel Mumtaj – Had only 3 rooms overall!

Quickly, we set up bonfire, had our dinner, had numerous discussions & went to sleep!

This place was much better for dinner & breakfast!

Next day when we woke up, it was very cold outside & we were too lazy to get out. 11 AM was the time, when everyone was up for breakfast. After that, we packed our stuff and headed to Tikkar Taal Lake which was not that far from our Hotel. I had been at this place many times but you have to believe me for this, it was much better unlike what many people say about it. Sometimes, boating is not allowed in lake when its water level use to be at low level. This time, it was open for public, a plus point.

At a corner, little far, I saw couple of birds sitting on a dead tree having sunbath. In our local language (Dogri), we call them Jal-Kukkad. They almost lives on fishing being a good swimmer but every time they get out of water, they can fly better only after drying up their wings.

Tikkar Taal Lake
Yes! Jal-Kukkad

Tikkar Taal Lake

Tikkar Taal Lake, is not well managed by Haryana Tourism, which could be much better than what it is today. There is a Resort under Haryana Tourism beside the lake, which is reported many times for its bad service on TA. Another con of this area is mobile signals. It could be hard for you to call your relatives when you are here.

A big lawn in the resort could be good for kids & kids only.

Tikkar Taal Lake

For couples, friends or the one, who love things in their natural form without much human disturbance, this place may work out. Just like me, I don’t like places which are so called improved with concrete constructions.
