Kunihar which literally means “Ucha Gaon“, a village located on the top of a hill, is exactly what its named for. Around 2 kms from Kunihar, towards Arki, is a Shiva Temple known as Shiva Tandav Gufa. I had to come here with one my best friends, Anil Kanwar, who had to meet his grandparents. We stayed there for a day & very early morning asked grandmother about best places to visit in Kunihar. She suggested us two places, both were temples including Kunihar Talab Temple & Shiv Tandav Gufa.

Shiv Tandav Gufa

After visiting Kunihar Talab Temple, which was near to the home, we left for Shiv Tandav Gufa, around 2 kms from Kunihar Town. This temple is devoted to Lord Shiva & his Tandav Stotra. This is a Hindu Hymn which described both the power and beauty of Lord Shiva.

Soon after reaching the temple, I was impressed by the maintenance of the place done by temple authorities. It was very well maintained and provides a very peaceful environment with Bhajans playing at a very soft level.

On entering the main temple, we reached a cave which was the biggest I have seen till now. At the end, is Shiva Lingam along with other Hindu Deities. Just beside Shiva Lingam , there is another cave which is much narrow, that one can only go through it by crawling. However, entry to this cave is now allowed at this time. I am not sure though 😛

So, overall, that’s a Child Cave inside a bigger Parent Cave. After getting the blessings of Lord Shiva, we came out for the prasaad. Every day, Devotees gets Kheer as prasaad at this temple. I wish, I could get it twice 😀

This place also offers a nice scenic views around along with another small Shiva Temple, just few meters away from Shiva Tandav Guffa.

If you are ever in Kunihar, then this place is must visit & not to miss. Apart from Shiva Cave in Kunihar, if you just travel more 20 kms to Arki, you will be graced with Majestic Arki Fort (known for its beautiful wall paintings)
